What is MrBeast up to?

The powerful content creator could offer the solution that TikTok users in the US are demanding.

In the midst of the uncertainty generated by the announcement that the US would ban the social network, MrBeast sheds light and hope for all those who oppose this withering decision. A complex issue that, according to the Supreme Court, could compromise national security through the collection of users’ personal data by the Chinese government. The solution lies in a specific law that requires Bytedance – TikTok‘s parent company based in China – to sell its operations before 19 January.

But Jimmy Donaldson -better known as MrBeast– had an ace up his sleeve, and between jokes, he announced on his X account that he would buy the application so that it would not be banned. We don’t know if he was serious or if he was just testing the waters, but the reality is that this alternative has convinced more than half a million users, who have not hesitated to support his idea.

Shortly after writing the message, he claimed that several businessmen had contacted him directly to discuss a possible joint purchase of the platform. An uneconomic and unlikely move, given that TikTok is valued at around $50 billion and the youtuber’s estimated fortune is $1 billion, which means that the possibility of him acquiring the app independently is practically impossible. He would need to partner with other interested investors.

As the deadline approaches, the options for TikTok are drying up. For now, everything remains speculative, and the chances of MrBeast succeeding in acquiring it seem distant. What is certain, however, is that the pressure on ByteDance to sell its US operations will not abate, and the app’s future in the country remains uncertain.
