Burberry FW25: An escape to the English countryside (in style)

Gathered at the iconic Tate Britain, Daniel Lee transported us to the cosy rural scene of the North of England with a collection that left no one indifferent.

Orlando Bloom, Lauryn Hill, Brooklyn Beckham, Skepta, Gareth Bale, Edward Enninful and Anna Wintour herself did not hesitate to attend the most acclaimed event on the London Fashion Week calendar. Daniel Lee never disappoints – or at least he hasn’t so far. But celebrities aside, the real star of the evening was none other than a mysterious knight in metallic armour, who strode confidently around the venue attracting the attention of the curious, who didn’t hesitate to approach him and ask for selfies.

In a majestic setting with curtains simulating the depths of a forest and a blue velvet tapestry, the designer chose to pay homage to British nostalgia by excellently fusing the rustic with the modern. In his own words, it is ‘a reflection of weekend getaways to the countryside, the kind you experience every Friday night, with long walks in the rain and trips to stately homes’. An almost bohemian need to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Inspired by the sumptuous interiors of grand country mansions, Lee decided to reinterpret traditional fabrics and elements of rural life in elaborate pieces such as velvet brocade jackets – which mimic wallpaper. At the same time, pheasant prints become feather embellishments and lace is transformed into beaded details. Even Burberry‘s iconic coats resurface through embossed leather and shearling.

Each garment tells a story of its own: jodhpur trousers evoke equestrian pursuits and wool tailoring draws directly from Savile Row but without losing the creative’s distinctive approach. The colour palette is dominated by tapestry brown, burgundy and bottle green, evoking the landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales.

Highlights include the B Bracelet bag, which perfectly represents this intention to fuse the classic and the contemporary by taking inspiration from a saddle and incorporating updated details. Jewellery also played a key role in the collection, adding the ultimate touch of elegance and alluding to an era of splendour.

And as expected, the casting was stellar: Lila Moss, Naomi Campbell, Jason Isaacc, Elizabeth McGovern, Richard E. Grant or Nora Attal were on the catwalk wearing some of the most stunning looks.
