The art and fashion collective MSCHF presents its new work ‘King Solomon’s Baby’ on 10 July at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn. The large-scale sculpture will be sold for $100,000 to a single buyer, or physically divided into parts if there are several interested parties. In that case, the price is adjusted according to the number of buyers.
The action follows in the line of previous works by the collective, such as Material Values or the fragmentation of a painting by Damien Hirst, and poses a reflection on the logic of ownership and value in the contemporary art market.
A ceremony scheduled for 20:30 on the opening day will mark the cutting of the first portion of the sculpture. The division will continue in a live performance over the next two days, until the sculpture is divided in its entirety. The work will be on display for two days and can also be viewed online. King Solomon’s Baby” is for sale through kingsolomonsbaby.com.
