Wales Bonner has collaborated with adidas Originals on a collection that honours Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He signed one of the first sneakers with his own name in the 1970s.
The WB Jabbar model has been redesigned in suede with crocodile-embossed leather stripes. The tongue features a gold detail referencing the sky hook, and the heel displays the word “Wales Bonner”.
It includes a yellow jersey with green accents, a white tracksuit with a striped collar and cuffs, and socks in the colours of the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. This collection combines sporting and retro references, connecting fashion with history and Black culture.
The campaign, starring Jecardi Sykes and photographed by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, mixes current images with archive material and clips of Abdul-Jabbar’s voice, highlighting his legacy.
The adidas Originals by Wales Bonner Jabbar collection will be released on 8 September on the adidas website, the Confirmed app, and select stores.
