LaRoux corroborates sexual abuse allegation against Kanye West

British singer La Roux has come to the defence of model Jennifer Ann, who accuses Kanye West — now known as Ye — of sexual assault during the filming of a remix of In for the Kill in 2010. The allegations have gained new momentum after private messages from La Roux herself came to light which, according to court documents cited by media outlets such as People, would support the model’s version of what happened during that recording.

According to the account included in the lawsuit, Ann claims that West crossed boundaries in an extreme manner during the filming. The model claims that the artist grabbed her by the neck, covered her mouth and even put his fingers down her throat, performing a gesture that, according to the complaint, simulated forced oral sex. At that moment, according to the testimony presented in court, West justified the scene with a provocative statement: ‘This is art… I am like Pablo Picasso.’ A reference that, curiously, comes just as Pablo Picasso’s name is back in the spotlight following Rosalía’s recent statements about whether it is possible to separate an artist’s work from the artist themselves.

La Roux, who witnessed the incident, reportedly confirmed her recollection in Instagram messages included as evidence in the case. In them, she explains that she was never able to forget what happened and describes the experience as ‘horrible.’ She also notes that she asked that the images never be used or circulated, as the model was understandably concerned that the material could be leaked.

This case is part of a lawsuit filed in 2024 in which Ann also accuses Universal Music Group of continuing to collaborate with artists known for problematic behaviour within the industry. Although La Roux had already hinted in 2020 that she had witnessed disturbing behaviour by West, at the time she refrained from giving details out of respect for the person concerned. Now, with the court documents on the table, that story is back in the public conversation.
