A vintage Cartier Crash breaks the world sales record

Loupe This, the watch auction platform, sets a world record by selling a 1967 Cartier Crash for $1.5 million.

 

In a matter of seven days, the bidding went from $50 to $1,503,888. It was in the last 24 hours that the figure increased by almost a million dollars, and if the buyer’s 10% premium is added to this, the accessory now fetches more than double the maximum pre-sale estimate. In this way, it snatched the world record from the piece auctioned at Sotheby’s Geneva for $884,972.

This is an 18-carat vintage Cartier Crash in “excellent original condition”. And although it shows some surface wear and tear, the sale was made without reservation. The case contains the hallmarks and serial number, and also retains the original hand-wound Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 841 movement.
