A$AP Rocky acquitted in Los Angeles assault trial

A$AP Rocky has been acquitted of charges for allegedly shooting his former friend on the streets of Hollywood in 2021. As he left the courtroom, the rapper made no secret of his gratitude to the jury: ‘Thank you all for saving my life. Thank you for making the right decision,’ he said, avoiding what could have been a prison sentence of up to 24 years. Charges of two felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm were dismissed, marking a milestone in his fight for justice.

The rapper dives into victory embraced by his partner Rihanna and surrounded by those closest to him. The tension that could have defined the future of his career dissipates in a moment of relief as the fashion and music mogul breathes a sigh of relief. The verdict comes on the heels of an outright rejection by the prosecution, who offered him a six-month sentence and probation, an offer Rocky dismissed without hesitation. From the outset, the artist was adamant that he was innocent, confident that the truth would prevail in the hands of the jury.

This result comes at a crucial time, with several high-calibre projects on the horizon. A$AP Rocky is set to take centre stage at the upcoming Rolling Loud in Los Angeles in March, in addition to his role as celebrity co-chair at the Met Gala in May. He is also immersed in the filming of Spike Lee’s latest film, alongside Denzel Washington. The trial, which spanned three weeks, stemmed from a conflict with Relli, his longtime friend and fellow A$AP gang member, whose relationship had grown strained over time. On November 6, 2021, a meeting that sought to resolve their differences ended in a confrontation that led Rocky to draw a gun. While Relli testified that he was shot, Rocky’s defence argued that the gun was a blank.

On the final day of arguments, Rihanna and her children were present in the courtroom, supporting the artist in what represented one of the most difficult trials of his career. The jury’s decision was not only a legal triumph, but a reminder of the power of truth, even in the face of adversity.

We tell you all about it.
