Acne Studios FW21 is pure post-pandemic optimism

For the Fall/Winter 2021 season, Swedish brand Acne Studios reflects on the last year of isolation to reflect how we will dress and feel once the pandemic is behind us.

“I was thinking about what happens when we emerge from isolation, the same but also somehow different. This collection is a dreamscape that begins with soft pastel colours, before awakening into monochromatic clarity, which is an ode to the white or black clothes worn for rituals in our life cycle, like weddings and funerals,” said creative director Jonny Johansson.

The collection features voluminous silhouettes and wraparound elements that play with panels and shapes. Some garments feature sharp, cinched waists, while others are loose and shapeless.

In terms of color, the range moves from floral pastels and neutrals to monochromatic black and white looks, almost moving from dreams to reality. The contrast between sweet, sleek silhouettes and hard, structured ones is evident, and captures Acne Studios’ versatility when it comes to design. The feel is one of authenticity and reality, with hand-bleached materials and frayed edges forming a common thread.
