With the nerves we all feel when doing something for the first time and combined with the corresponding excitement, designer Priya Ahluwalia, considered one of the masters of fashion films, made her debut at London Fashion Week (LFW) with her eponymous brand.
The room where this eagerly awaited debut took place radiated a mixture of fun, glamour and the shared sentiment of several of her friends, who proved to know Priya well, as they spotted at first glance the Bollywood and Nollywood film, fashion and musical influences that the designer used to (successfully) pull off her autumn/winter 22 collection.
This first show for the designer was a milestone in capital letters and marked a before and after in her career, demonstrating how over time she has perfected her techniques related to the level of softness, polish and crispness of fit that few would have believed could be done with recycled materials and yarns and ethically and environmentally tested supply chains. These techniques were perfectly represented in sexy party and nightclub wear, such as micro skirts, biker shorts and off-the-shoulder crop tops. A suggestion: follow the designer’s advice and combine any of these garments with a glamorous XL coat – you will triumph!
As for the men’s offering, it was marked by silk shirts with poster prints, hybrid plaid trousers and sweatpants, and several jeans laser-printed with the A of Ahluwalia in a checkered pattern, which was a riot of fun and celebration.
