Following his appointment as creative director, Alessandro Michele has decided to present his first launch for the Maison entitled ‘Avant les Débuts’. The designer has shared his first designs for the brand months ahead of the debut collection scheduled for spring 2025. Comprising 171 ready-to-wear looks and more than 93 images of shoes, bags and accessories, Michele has explained how he fell under the spell of Valentino’s “magical and powerful place”, and how a deep dive into the “wonderful treasures of its archive” has been the starting point of his journey. “I have been seduced by that place. I’m in love with it.”
“I started working on Valentino as if we were an orchestra; everyone was playing their instrument with so much love and dedication that I thought it would be fair to be grateful and thankful to the people who have worked tirelessly to make it happen. My job is to tune the instruments, and it’s about sharing, so keeping the collection hidden somehow wouldn’t have felt right. This is a beginning born of love: it wants to come out and be seen and shared”. The truth is that the aesthetic that emerges is certainly the one we know from Gucci: 70s-inspired suits and silhouettes, contrasts of prints and materials, and a spirit that always straddles romanticism, vintage taste and opulence.
