The LP, labeled with “Warning: no bars” on its packaging, promises to mark a significant change in the artist’s musical direction.
Defying expectations, “New Blue Sun” is described as “a celebratory work in the form of a living, breathing, sounding organism.”
“I’ve been interested in winds for a long time, so for me it was a natural progression to take up flutes,” André shared. On “New Blue Sun,” he showcases his prowess with instruments such as digital wind, Mayan flute, and others made of wood and bamboo. The album also features collaborations with talented musicians such as Carlos Niño, Nate Mercereau and Surya Botofasina.
André 3000 reflects on his creative process, revealing that the perception of his musical approach is incorrect. “I think people get the feeling that I sit down and make rap records, or that I sit down and don’t put them out that way. And no, I don’t,” he stated. “In my mind, I’d really like to make a rap album. So maybe that will happen someday, but I have to find a way to say what I want to say in an interesting way that’s appealing to me at this age.”
“New Blue Sun” features full-length tracks, including a 12-minute opening track. The tracklist reveals intriguing titles that reflect the album’s depth and originality:
1. I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A “Rap” Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time

And, in case you missed it, Lauryn Hill defends herself from critics, “You guys are lucky I’m coming out on stage”.
