Immersed in the Paris Haute Couture week and during the second day, the fashion show of the French “maison” par excellence, Chanel, took place. This emblematic and legendary fashion firm was one of the few that decided to present its latest Autumn/Winter couture collection in person and with guests.
Held at the Palais Galliere in Paris, Virgine Viard’s latest collection for Chanel was inspired by the world of art and paintings by artists such as Berthe Morisot, Marie Laurencin and Édouard Manet. But what made Virgine take inspiration from these works of art for her latest collection? Nothing more or less than rediscovering some portraits of Gabrielle Chanel herself wearing black or white dresses from the 1880s.
Composed of 37 looks and after presenting the Punk themed collection, Viard is back to show us her best and most artistic version of what couture is for her. In this latest couture line we can find impressionist-inspired dresses, skirts that look like plaid or long satin dresses with bows in the purest Morisot style. On the other hand, one of the key fabrics and stars of Chanel, tweed, dominated part of the garments in the collection, such as coats and skirt suits. Highlights included a long jacket with floral motifs in yellow, pink and white, her dress with straps, ruffles and overlapping flowers in white, and dresses embroidered with water lilies.
