Autumn’s must-have: the oversized blazer

As every mid-season, the blazer appears and this autumn it will be back stronger than ever in an oversized cut.

The blazer is a wardrobe essential. The term was coined by a Cambridge University rowing club in the early 1800s. Throughout its existence, it has remained a unisex staple. As with every mid-season, it appears and this autumn it will return stronger than ever in an oversized cut.

While it has also gone through periods of being considered a generic office wear item, the oversized blazer, specifically, is having a resurgence in popularity due to the rise of vintage shopping and alternative tailoring. Which we love! As we include this piece in our outfits every season.

The current reincarnation of the oversized jacket is often attributed to the return of the 90’s aesthetic and the rise of thrift shop shopping. However, fashion brands have taken notice and are designing jackets that follow current patterns or designs while returning to the nineties. It is the perfect transitional garment for the season.

Seen on the catwalks

The oversized blazer has been featured on several runways for the FW22 season, including Louis Vuitton and Acne Studios, which presented deconstructed versions of the silhouette, giving it a whole new look and feel through twisted proportions and abstract fastenings. Burberry, Prada and Michael Kors, meanwhile, proposed cleaner cuts.

Naturally, Balenciaga took oversized to another dimension in his “Snowstorm” presentation, during which he showed knee-length jackets with dramatic proportions and elongated sleeves. A similar look was adopted by Lemaire, which was evident in the brand’s blazers with rounded silhouettes.

The blazer is a genderless and seasonless garment that has been worn by all kinds of people for centuries. Its naturalness presents many opportunities for wearing and combining it. Its resurgence is aligned with current lifestyle trends as it continues to appear on catwalks around the world.

Now… Why not take a look at the best beauty trends for this autumn?
