25 new designers. 25 perspectives. 25 different visions of the future. The last show of the graduates of the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion program was, as always, a real show.
A good selection of the graduates of the year gather to present what they have been working on for the past two years. A real challenge for these young designers is to show all their creative vision as part of a collective exhibition. However, the class of 2019 has shown it to be nothing more and nothing less than easy.
The best thing about the proposal is to see how each new talent is totally different from the other, the main consensus was creative diversity. As Stavros Karelis said in his speech just before announcing the winners of the L’Oréal Creativity Award (this year the founder of Machine-A had the honour of choosing the winners), it was a very important moment for these 25 creatives. The community at the centre of attention is what pushes us further and further. They are the McQueens and Kanes of the future, and seeing their small steps was absolutely inspiring.
Central Saint Martins RTW - FW19 - 206 Looks
Kareis chose Goom Heo & Sheryn Akiki as winners. Goom Heo presented a collection of men’s clothing that flirted with humor in a way that men’s fashion rarely does. Plastic protectors in the groin implemented in the garments and mohair socks that arrives to the thigh completed the looks that focused on questioning the shape of the male body.
On the other hand, and despite being totally different in terms of style, Sheryn Akiki did something very similar in women’s clothing. Her afflicted sensuality was formed in a kind of cut & paste. She highlighted an electric pink suit, something we will definitely buy at Machine-A in the coming months.
