The Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris hosted the Chanel Haute Couture fashion show yesterday. In just a few hours it became one of the most talked about events of Paris Fashion Week, and not only because of its designs, but also because of the…

Xavier Veilhan, acclaimed French sculptor, was in charge of the staging. Geometric drawings, sculptures, hoops and cockades created a universe that dances on the limbo between fantasy and reality… All inspired by the world’s fairs of the 1920s and artists such as Sonia and Robert Delaunay.

“It’s a summer collection, so it’s very fresh and includes a lot of embroidery,” explains Chanel‘s creative director Virginie Viard. “I was a bit inspired by the 1920s: the feathers, the fringes…. The feminine side of the constructivists, the girl inside”.

Thus, we find such characteristic elements as the fashion house’s timeless tweed, present in summer suits made up of skirts and jackets. Wrap-around trouser suits, chiffon and satin dresses and beaded waistcoats elevated the collection to a higher level of glamour and elegance.

However, although the designs were loved by the public, Chanel is receiving a barrage of criticism for animal cruelty. Opening the show was Charlotte Casiraghi, granddaughter of Grace Kelly, riding a horse and wearing a luxurious riding outfit made up of a black tweed jacket.
