The avant-garde oral care brand Selahatin has created a collection of scents for your mouth. Distilled to its absolute essence and made with a careful selection of raw materials, Eau d’Extrait Oral offers a unique experience.
Selahatin can boast Rick Owens among its fans, but it remains a fairly niche brand. Still, founder Kristoffer Vural insists there is a lack of innovation in oral care. “There is something missing in the products,” Vural says of the toothpaste market. “The major companies don’t change unless they are forced to…. I think we will lead the industry and ultimately be the company that transforms this category and makes it sexy and cool.”
At the age of 25, Vural suffered a stroke that left him paralysed for a year. In addition to the loss of mobility, Vural’s stroke also resulted in a strange and more mysterious change: his sense of taste and smell became heightened. As a result, brushing his teeth became almost unbearable. In addition, Vural also developed synaesthesia, a condition that allows him to experience taste and smell as colours.
Moving away from the big conglomerates in the sector, Selahatin was born with the intention of revolutionising everything we expect from a toothpaste brand. Presented in aluminium tubes and glass bottles, the products emulate a high-quality feel. Selahatin’s range of toothpastes, mouthwashes and mouth sprays combine different aromas and unique flavours. “What we are doing is essentially perfume for your mouth,” says Vural, touching on the inherent link between taste and smell.
