Voodoo Club was born out of the vindication and celebration, in equal parts, of black culture. In search of a safe space where he could enjoy freedom of expression and individuality without limits, Wekaforé Jibril, together with his brother Oseka and his friends, decided to create in Barcelona the refuge he longed for.
Since then, African culture and music have forged an unbreakable bond in an atmosphere where the feeling of belonging to the same collective reigns. Perhaps this is the essence of Voodoo Club, that feeling that everyone talks about, even if it is difficult to describe if you don’t experience it first hand.
Moreover, it is not only a space for entertainment but also a support platform that seeks to give visibility to the emerging talent of its members and includes various disciplines such as music, fashion, dance or painting.
Dr. Martens wanted to be part of the Voodoo Club and, through a very special editorial together with HIGHXTAR., has managed to capture the rebellious and alternative essence of the movement, which remains in line with Dr. Martens‘ spirit of non-conformist self-expression. The ultimate synergy connection with music as the excuse and the Voodoo Club members as the protagonists telling their own stories.
“When we realised that there was no respectful representation of the black community in Barcelona we decided to create Voodoo Club. It was a really necessary issue for our culture and our heritage.
