In his conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Musk mentioned the idea of charging a fee to all users of the platform.
He said, “[We are] moving to a small monthly payment for use of the X system,” with the goal of combating “vast armies of bots.” He did not confirm how much this plan would cost users of the former Twitter or what exactly the paid features would include.
This is not the first time Elon Musk has talked about an alleged monthly payment. On July 15, Musk posted: “We remain cash flow negative, due to a 50% drop in advertising revenue and a heavy debt burden. We need to achieve positive cash flow before we can afford anything else.” He also shared X-specific metrics mentioning that it currently has 550 million “monthly users” who generate between 100 and 200 million messages per day, although it is not known exactly what fraction of these users are real versus bots.
Although in theory the debate with Netanyahu was to focus on the risks of AI and how to regulate it, Musk took the opportunity to refute the fact that his platform tolerates hate speech and anti-Semitism, although he himself has made disparaging remarks towards transgender people, as well as journalists, whistleblowers, critics of his companies and more on several occasions.
Currently, X has the X Blue subscription program (formerly known as Twitter Blue), the price of which starts at $8 USD per month. Don’t miss any updates on the upcoming pricing at Highxtar.
