End of an era: Casey Cadwallader to leave Mugler in 2025

According to WWD, Casey Cadwallader, Mugler‘s creative director, is about to close a cycle with the French house. After seven years transforming the brand’s identity, the American designer, who arrived in 2018 after stints at Marc Jacobs, Loewe, Narciso Rodriguez and Acne Studios, is preparing to step aside. The move could explain Mugler’s absence from the tentative Paris Fashion Week calendar for March 2025, with rumours pointing to his definitive departure in the spring of that same year.

Under Cadwallader’s vision, Mugler underwent a high-impact reinvention, fusing the disruptive spirit of the late Manfred Thierry Mugler with a contemporary aesthetic. The designer not only kept the legacy alive, but elevated it to new heights with avant-garde silhouettes that resonated in global fashion, while paying tribute to the maison’s iconic archives.

During his tenure, Mugler achieved cult status among stars such as Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga by wearing his designs at the most important moments. In September, he presented the SS25 collection and an emotional documentary, Inside the Dream: Mugler, which celebrated 50 years of the brand and took us on an intimate journey through Mugler’s most iconic couture moments, such as the memorable ‘Chimère’ dress.

Although Manfred Thierry Mugler officially retired from his position in 2002, he returned as creative advisor in 2013, and Cadwallader was the last designer to work alongside him in that capacity. For now, the Mugler team has yet to officially confirm Cadwallader’s departure, but the change seems imminent.
