The Japanese artist presented ‘Metanoia’, a complex ceramic sculpture in which small but intricate minuscule forms are superimposed on a glass surface.
After an arduous process of selection and analysis, the jury of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize has highlighted Inazaki‘s careful composition and innovative use of ceramic ornamentation. The jury is made up of 13 prominent personalities from the worlds of design, architecture, journalism, criticism and museum curatorship, including Magdalene Odundo, Wang Shu, Olivier Gabet, Patricia Urquiola and Anatxu Zabalbeascoa.
In addition, two special mentions were awarded. The first went to Dominique Zinkpé for ‘The Watchers’ a complex vertical sculptural ensemble that has been created by carving individual pieces of wood that evoke the figure of the divinity Ibeji and represent traditional Yoruba beliefs related to twin births. The second was awarded to Moe Watanabe for ‘Transfer Surface’ a walnut bark box that pays homage to the cyclical changes of the seasons while recalling the ancient Japanese tradition of making vases that serve as containers in the art of Ikebana flower making.
And speaking of the union between the art world and LOEWE… We tell you all about ‘Writing the Prado’.
