Charli xcx, whose latest album Bratha has been one of the most successful on the international scene, was preparing the remix of Guess with a high-level collaboration, and all the predictions have been fulfilled. As many noted in the publication of the promotional image of the new version of the song, Billie Eilish has been commissioned to accompany the British artist in this hit that defies the conventions of contemporary pop.
The dark and atmospheric style creates a perfect synergy with Charli XCX’s dynamic and futuristic energy. “Hello Billie, are you there?” she asks the ‘Birds of a Feather’ performer. “Wanna guess the colour of my underwear/ Wanna know what’s down there,” Charli sings in ‘Guess’, but viewers of the video won’t have to wonder for long as the video which begins with a house party quickly turns into a shower of underwear.
Bras, panties and underwear of every colour begin to fall from the sky. Aboard a bulldozer, Eilish navigates her way to a mountain of clothes, from which they both roll down to find themselves back at the party. “I know what you got down there/It’s that black lace set with little bows/The ones I picked out for you in Tokyo,” Eilish’s new verses read. “Charli likes boys, but she knows I’m on.”
The Guess featuring Billie Eilish clip has a charitable purpose, as the underwear used to stage the video has been donated to I Support the Girls. The organisation “collects and distributes basic necessities, such as bras, underwear and menstrual hygiene products, so that women and people who are homeless, impoverished or troubled can stand on their feet with dignity”.
