On May 26, two astrological phenomena will take place: the first lunar eclipse of the year and the biggest supermoon of 2021. Depending on our geographical location, we will be able to appreciate one event or the other.

eclipse lunar

During the night of May 26, we will be able to enjoy the first lunar eclipse of the year -also known as blood moon or red moon– if we are in the western part of South America; being Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay the locations from where it will be best appreciated. At the same time, those who are located in the western part of the United States, Oceania or some parts of Asia will be lucky. If your location does not correspond to any of the above, do not worry, this phenomenon will be repeated on November 19 of this year.

On the other hand, the northern hemisphere will be able to enjoy the full-flower supermoon. This will be possible thanks to the two conditions necessary for its appearance: that the satellite is in its full phase and that at the same time it is located at the point of its orbit closest to the Earth.  Thus, we will be able to observe the moon up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual. In Spain, it will appear in our skies on May 26 at 13:14 peninsular time.
