FW23 is the season of massive headwear

On the Fall-Winter 2023 catwalks, we were able to spot a new headwear trend: massive, maximalist headdresses or hats.

During the fashion weeks of the season framed in the FW23 season, we have been able to detect among this oversaturated universe of aesthetics, a new headwear trend that has stood out for its visual impact: the massive and maximalist headdresses or hats.

Oversized or ostentatious caps have been reinterpreted by a number of cult designers or luxury brands for fall-winter 2023. From Daniel Lee‘s furry or flurry accessory for Burberry, to Connor Ives‘ top hats presented in New York. Not to mention the fluffy headdress, the collective work of Gucci‘s creative team, which mesmerized all eyes recently on the Milan runway.

This new trend comes to subvert the minimalist trend, and experiment with fashion as a way of evasive expression with which to have fun and diverge from the established.

And although big headdresses have been in fashion for some time now, thanks to fashion prescribers like Megan Fox, ASAP or Kendall Jenner, it is only now that they have really made an impact on the culture, and have been elevated to the catwalk stage.

FURRY AESTHETICS

Within this new imaginary revered by the fashion spheres, the fluffy or cozy headdresses or hats / caps are synchronized with this boom or explosion of furry aesthetics that is dressing the winter looks of urban tribes. Accessories to love or hate in equal parts, but that are taking over the streets, between heaters and yeti boots, projecting an experimental movement on the rise that again evokes the effect or Y2K fever.

This whole constellation of garments or accessories is also essentially connected to oversized or XXL garments, but with a refreshing twist that advocates “more is more”, glorifying an entire aesthetic driven by Generation Z as one of the most creative in history.
