HBO Max launches docu-reality ‘Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce’

Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce’, one of pop culture’s most media-acclaimed splits, will be told by the lawyers involved and the couple’s friends.

Kim and Kanye (now Ye) were already two celebrities when they married in 2014, but both their relationship and their subsequent divorce in 2021 elevated them to another plane on the fame scale. As if it were feasible to discern fact from fiction in the lives of two of the world’s most famous people, Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce, which premiered on 19 September on HBO Max takes a deeper look at their bond and the reasons for their breakup.

The platform offers “an insider’s account of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s divorce, as revealed by the lawyers involved and the couple’s friends. Told from both perspectives, it looks at why Kanye fought to save the marriage but why Kim was desperate to end it”. Divided into two parts, Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce shows the different points of view of the same story.

Episode I

The first episode tells the relationship from Kanye’s perspective. From what it was like for him to marry into a fame-seeking family, while he was just an artist focused on music. In addition, it also discusses his struggles with mental health and the aftermath of his mother’s death. All of this led to him losing control.

The second part is more sympathetic to Kim Kardashian and presents Kanye as a controlling man. The archive footage includes Kanye’s social media posts and statements towards Pete Davidson (Kim’s later boyfriend), his xenophobic comments and his unstable character.

The documentary Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce will attempt to confront both versions through the eyes of outsiders, trying to find a middle ground as it x-rays a relationship that ended in self-destruction. No word yet on whether or not the docu-reality ends up positioning itself.

Bye bye ‘The Idol’: HBO Max cancels second season.
