HBO has unveiled the first official teaser for the third season of Euphoria, confirming the long-awaited return of the series in April 2026. The new Euphoria images are part of an HBO promotional video showcasing its 2026 slate, alongside titles such as House of the Dragon, Industry and The Pitt. The clips show the main characters at a very different stage in their lives, shaped by a time jump of several years after the end of high school.

Zendaya, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer and Maude Apatow lead this first look, which hints at a more mature, ambitious and darker season.

A time jump that reshapes the series

The teaser is narrated by Rue Bennett (Zendaya), whose voiceover sets the emotional tone for this new chapter. “A few years after high school, I don’t know if life turned out exactly how I wanted,” the character reflects, making it clear that Euphoria is no longer focused on adolescence, but on the consequences of growing up.

In the preview, Rue is seen dancing at what appears to be a party before sitting in a church, where she states that “there’s no turning back”. Other scenes confirm that the story takes place “a few years after high school”, as heard in the clip shared by HBO.

New images of the characters

Beyond the teaser, photographs shared on the platform’s social media channels show the protagonists in settings far removed from those previously seen. Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) appears cooking burgers at home, dressed in a polo shirt, while Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) poses for the camera with a polished, confident aesthetic.

Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) holds a melting ice cream, Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) relaxes in an art studio, and Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow) appears in an environment that suggests her new professional role. Rue, meanwhile, is once again seen in a church, reinforcing the introspective tone of the season.

A new danger for Rue

One of the most tense moments in the preview shows Rue entering a bar, where a new character — played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje — confronts her with a blunt line: “You walk into my house and you don’t even introduce yourself.” Everything points to him being a drug trafficker with a key role in the storyline.

Series creator Sam Levinson has previously revealed that the season opens with Rue south of the Mexican border, trying to find “very innovative ways” to pay off a debt linked to the drug world.

Script lines and narrative clues

Alongside the images, HBO shared short excerpts from the script that act as emotional clues for the season. These include Rue saying “Life is precious”, Nate stating “You have to have faith”, Cassie admitting “The fairy tale is over”, Jules asking “Do you remember me?”, Lexi reflecting “I can’t abuse my power”, and Maddy reminding us that “It’s important to have a moral code”.

What we know about the story and characters

According to Levinson, season 3 is set approximately five years after high school. Cassie and Nate are living in the suburbs and are engaged, Jules is studying art, Maddy works in Hollywood at a talent agency, and Lexi is an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone.

Jacob Elordi has described this new chapter as “something completely different” and said that Nate is “nicer” this time around, although he admits he is unsure whether that change will work.

Confirmed cast and new additions

Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Eric Dane and Chloe Cherry all return. They are joined by new cast members including Sharon Stone, Rosalía, Priscilla Delgado, Marshawn Lynch, Danielle Deadwyler, Natasha Lyonne and Trisha Paytas, who will play a significant role this season.

Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid and Nika King will not be returning to the series.

A key return for HBO

The third season arrives more than four years after the end of season two, following delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes, internal tensions on set, and the deaths of actor Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen. During that time, Levinson developed The Idol, while much of the Euphoria cast went on to consolidate their film careers.

Season 3 of Euphoria premieres in spring 2026.
