HIGHXTAR Weekends | What to do in Barcelona

One more week, from the HIGHXTAR team we are in charge of collecting the best plans to enjoy the weekend to the fullest. For all those without ideas… Pay attention, here are our weekly recommendations.

THURSDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER

The Mainline collective (to which djs Marcelo Pantani, Yung Prado, JP Sunshine, John Heaven, Guim, Nile Fee and Daniel 2000 belong), is going to throw a monthly party in Barcelona’s Laut club. In this way, Mainline Club will be a space that opens up to everyone with the vision of broadening the perspective of club parties in Barcelona. The collective wants to have a diverse slot and experiment with artists who are being a reference of the current avant-garde in the electronic scene, so they open the season this Thursday 21 September with a dazzling team: Alvva, with his personal approach to club music influenced by the new electronic made in UK; Guim, from the Mainline collective, eclectic and reference of the Barcelona scene and Meritxell de Soto, with her “deconstructed club” style mixed with funk dance, jersey or guaracha. Tickets here.

FRIDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER

After having participated in different collective exhibitions, in projects such as Live Painting at Nau Bostik and in events such as Time to Eat Fest, the artist and illustrator Dirty presents his first solo exhibition at  Espai (B). He started in the world of graffiti and urban art in 2001 and, since then, he has intervened walls everywhere and created work in his studio, developing a trajectory where muralism has become increasingly important. The first solo exhibition of the urban artist Dirty called ‘NEEDS’ will be on view until 29 September.

SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER

On the occasion of the popular festivities of La Mercè, we present the free concert of Mushkaa in Moll de la fusta at 22:30h. Everyone is talking about Mushkaa, Bad Gyal’s sister. Irma Farelo, with a more hip-hop style than her older sister, has made a name for herself through collaborations with The Tyets, Figa Flawas and others. The latest, ‘No m’estimes +’, with Julieta and her usual producer Roots, is a disco anthem to hit the dancefloors hard. A luxury to see her before her two sold-out dates at the Apolo in February, and we’re looking forward to her releasing her first album.

SUNDAY 24 SEPTEMBER

Aimar Córdoba didn’t just hit the jackpot when Rosalía said her favourite tortilla bar is Bar El Pollo: the founder has earned a reputation as one of the most solid tapas bars in Barcelona. Now, Aimar Córdoba presents Bar La Polla (Tigre, 31): A bar with a pure bar vocation, with good drinks and cold tapas ranging from salted fish to pickles in vinegar, salads and omelettes made on the spot. The name? A spicy truism, considering it’s next door to Bar El Pollo (a giant picture of a water cock at the entrance is the sister of the two poultry bars).
