HIGHXTAR Weekends | What to do in Madrid

One more week, from the HIGHXTAR team we are in charge of collecting the best plans to enjoy the weekend to the fullest. For all those without ideas… Pay attention, here are our weekly recommendations.

It will take place from 21 to 24 September at Matadero, the contemporary creation centre of Madrid City Council’s Culture Department. The programme includes Lawrence Malota Shrink 01995, Ovai, Katarina Gryvul & Alex Guevara Live AV, Joakim Second Nature, CORIN Lux Aeterna, Konx-om-Pax System Works AV, LustSickPuppy, CoH meets Abul Mogard, NSDOS, Venus Ex Machina & Xtrux Live AV, Lorem Tesh AV, Zan Lyons Interactive Visual Audio, Beatrix Weapons ft Ruido.Frio ASCENT and more. Tickets per day or per show available here.

With the excuse that Kanye West was in Madrid a few days ago and was spotted having breakfast at the top of Dani García’s Brasserie, we take this opportunity to recommend this sophisticated and exotic restaurant located at the top of the Four Seasons Hotel Madrid. Brasserie seems to have become the new hot spot in Madrid for its genuine dishes with sophisticated Mediterranean touches. Influential people from the national and international creative scene frequent the space, such as Alejandro Palomo, creative director of the fashion brand Palomo Spain.

FRIDAY 22 SEPTEMBER

The #EspacioStreetArt reopens with free access and new works. Edgar Plans, Ana Barriga, Sabek, Rafael Macarrón or Yayoi Kusama are some of the new urban artists that you will be able to find during the tour. For some years now, the #FundaciónCristinaMasaveu has started a line of work related to urban art. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday it will be possible to visit this space with free admission until full capacity is reached. It is not possible to book in advance online, nor is it possible to select the time of access to the space.

A powerful line-up of female artists will take to the stage at the WiZink Center for Spotify EQUAL FEST, which will feature shows by Nathy Peluso, Ptazeta, Natalia Lacunza, Judeline and Lola Índigo. There, we will be able to enjoy the concerts of these iconic figures who will shake up the national scene under the framework of Equal: a global initiative of the brand that aims to promote gender equality in the industry. Tickets here.

SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER

At nightfall, Club Cadavra will be transformed into the epicentre of undergound music with the new Spanish party “Pachanga”. SUNDAY 24 SEPTEMBER

Sunday afternoon will be dedicated to the impressionist art of Monet. A world that we will access through the exhibition that the CentroCentro de Cibeles is hosting on the artist, entitled ‘Masterpieces from the Musée Marmottan Monet’. This is the first major anthological exhibition dedicated to Claude Monet in Madrid in the last three decades, bringing together more than 50 masterpieces that explain his entire artistic career, including the ‘Water Lilies’ and the ‘Portrait of Michel Monet with a Pompom Cap’.

To end Sunday we recommend you to go to Uno Chan, the restaurant that has been open for less than two years and has already been awarded a Michelin star. A bar, a few tables and an eye always on Japan are its essentials. His omakase – born from his passion for stews and recipes based on popular wisdom – has become a reference point. You must also try their fish of the day kizukuri with Getaria-style bilbaína, mussel sunomono and tripe gyoza madrileña style.
