Hublot creates this watch in honour of “The Great Eight”

Hublot announces the limited edition Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin. The watch has been created to honor the Russian ice hockey superstar, affectionately known to fans as ‘Ovi’.

It is a limited edition made in honor of ‘The Great Eight’, as the russian ice hockey superstar -due to his jersey number- is affectionately known.

The Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin has some additional personalized touches. To celebrate his jersey number, a ‘Great Eight’ logo sits at 8 o’clock on the dial. 

In addition, Ovi’s signature appears on the sapphire crystal case back. Another special detail -which we loved- is the tip of the chronograph hand , which is finished in red, white and blue: a nod to the Russian flag , as well as the colors of the capitals of Washington .

Thanks to the “One-Click” fastening system, the strap can be changed safely and quickly. The watch comes with a second black rubber strap in addition to the original red one. And the icing on the cake: there will also be a limited-edition personalized field hockey puck signed by the player as a souvenir for fans.

“Working with my favorite watch brand and designing a watch, as well as having my name on it, is a great honor. When Hublot asked which model we should work on together, it had to be the Big Bang Unico one hundred percent”, says Alexander Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals ice hockey team and a friend of the Hublot brand.

The watch is powered by Hublot’s in-house UNICO chronograph mechanism and its column wheel on the dial side. For now, it is limited to only 100 units How much does a collector’s piece like this cost?  Its current price is $26,200.
