Many try to define Generation Z and learn about their interests, but few ask them directly. Now, Instagram is unveiling its 2023 Trends Report, with the key themes that will drive and shape culture in the new year, according to GenZ.
Instagram partnered with WGSN to survey Generation Z users. This report began with a simple question about how to sum up 2023 in one word. The main answers were healing and energy, but they also drew some major conclusions which we have summarised below. To read the full report you can do so here.
2023, the year of the main character energy. They also summarise it as a year of healing and energy.
Breaking the ice with DMs. More than half are more comfortable being vulnerable online and by text message than in person, and almost half would send a meme as a first message to a match on a dating app.
But always with sign compatibility. Almost half of the respondents would not date someone with an incompatible birth chart.
XL headphones as a complement… and for listening to podcasts. 40% want to listen to podcasts from their favourite creators in 2023.
Finances are a priority. More than 85% of GenZ plan to learn a new skill in 2023, and one in four want to increase their knowledge of finance.
Using social media to make money: 64% plan to monetise a project this year.
Second-hand as a fashion MUST. More than a quarter of GenZ shoppers turn to second-hand shopping when a garment goes over budget.
Not neglecting skincare. 2 out of 3 will buy beauty or skincare products that protect from the sun and extreme weather conditions.
