Is the Kardashian-Jenner era over?

It’s almost impossible to imagine pop culture without the most media-friendly family of the moment: Kardashian. But it’s reportedly coming to an end.

It’s almost impossible to imagine pop culture without the most media-friendly family of the moment: Kardashian-Jenner. The fast news universe feeds on the relationships, scandals and arguments of Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie. However, this season they seem to be out of the spotlight, they even had their invitation to the Met Gala 2023 cancelled, is this the end of them?

Everything the sisters Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Lylie, and their mother Kris Jenner touch turns to gold. Or so we all thought. The low ratings and the scandals in which its protagonists have been involved would have led them to end the show. However, they started a new reality show The Kardashian in which they have signed a season renewal, but as it has turned out, viewers are no longer that interested in the clan.

In early March, rumours began circulating that Vogue USA editor Anna Wintour had cancelled the Kardashian-Jenners’ invitations to this year’s Met Gala. If true, this would be the first Met Gala red carpet in a decade not to feature a Kardashian. This could be an indication that one of the most media-friendly families in recent years is losing interest among the younger generation.

After Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s divorce, the businesswoman has distanced herself somewhat from social media. Even now, after starting and ending a relationship with Pete Davidson, the socialite has decided to stay in the shadows. This has completely affected her image, as what made them have a strong community was their constant interaction on social media, showing off their lifestyle, their plans and their unattainable beauty.

A point that also, although initially their forte, is having a direct impact on alienating their fans by not fully showing “the real thing”. The family’s unrepentant obsession with displaying unattainable standards of beauty has largely alienated the Kardashians from people who can’t afford the same pleasures and luxuries as them.

Added to this is the huge online battle to prove that the clan retouches each and every image they post on social media. In the last few months alone, Kim and Kendall Jenner have had to respond to accusations from thousands of fans that the models have digitally retouched their bodies. Even Kim finally uploaded what appears to be a selfie without a filter to show her “real face”.

Unlike actors, musicians, artists, the Kardashians have nothing more to offer than content about themselves and their lives to monetise. That’s why we’re no longer surprised that Kylie Jenner got into a social media spat with Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez, or that some images have emerged in which it can be interpreted that singer Bad Bunny and model Kendall Jenner are getting to know each other.

Fans are getting tired of hearing Kim tell working women to stop being lazy; of pretending to care about their cosmetic tweaks and borderline diets; of them promoting the use of private jets while lecturing on climate change…. While there’s always going to be a very strong fandom of this family, it’s true that lately an anti-Kardashian sentiment is running rampant in a way that doesn’t go unnoticed.
