The UK joins other countries such as New Zealand, Norway and Sweden in banning the boiling alive of lobsters, as well as other crustaceans or molluscs in general.
The new bill, which protects the welfare rights of creatures and prevents animal suffering, will be enforced to prevent inhumane food preparation.
Once the bill is passed, it will be illegal in the UK to boil lobsters without first freezing them, as there is ample evidence of the ability of these sensitive creatures to feel pain and suffering. Although this regulation will harm the fishing and culinary industry, it is undoubtedly a great animal protection measure.
