Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and Jordan Brand have officially announced the release of Air Jordan 1. The silhouette was presented by the artist himself before his Super Bowl performance in February, and is inspired by his last two albums: Vibras y Colores.
For many, this is the most eagerly awaited collaboration of 2020. This release is a revelation for Jordan lovers and Balvin fans.
The shape features a canvas top flooded with gradients that begin with a red center. The shades become cooler on the outside, going from yellow to green to blue on the toe and heel. Swooshes have an irregular border and reverse this gradient pattern to accentuate their shape. They feature sharp shapes that wrap around the toe, buttonholes, neck flaps and heel overlaps to represent a “cloudlike explosion“, which Balvin says is his “source of energy“. “I was thinking about how I could have a disruptive Air Jordan 1“.
“I wanted to be the person who really dared to change the shapes and go all out. No one has touched the Air Jordan 1 like this before.”
However, the details don’t end there. Balvin’s smiley logo replaces the standard Jumpman graphic on the left shoe tongue. It also includes a series of interchangeable patches with another smiley graphic, a lightning bolt, a basketball and a classic Jumpman that allow the user to customize their appearance. A variety of pink, white and black laces complete the collection.
J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 will launch December 8 at Nike SNKRS and selected stores. Its price has not yet been announced.
