Jalisco Cartel makes death threats against Peso Pluma

The house’s latest collection was an ode to refinement and graphic style, and brought Claudia Schiffer back to the catwalk.

Jalisco Cartel makes death threats against Peso Pluma

After receiving death threats from the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation, Peso Pluma has decided to cancel his 14 October performance in Tijuana. The cartel led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, is one of the strongest criminal organisations in Mexico.

In March 2023, the singer became the most listened to artist on Spotify in Mexico. The musical genre that Peso Pluma sings par excellence is corridos tumbados, a sub-genre of regional Mexican and urban music. The lyrics of these songs usually refer to drug traffickers and criminal leaders for the most part.

Peso Pluma is from Jalisco, where the Jalisco Cartel reigns supreme. But in his songs, Peso Pluma makes allusions to the Sinaloa Cartel and its main leaders, such as ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán. Regarding the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation (CJNG) Peso Pluma made a cover in 2020 about the godson of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, leader of the CJNG.

The artist was scheduled to perform a concert in Tijuana on 14 October. However, on 12 September, three banners were displayed in Tijuana, Baja California, signed by the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation. These banners read: “This is for you, Peso Pluma. Refrain from performing on 14 October because it will be your last performance for being disrespectful and with a loose tongue”.

Given the dangerous nature of the performance, the record label confirmed on 20 September that the Mexican singer had decided to cancel the concert. Peso Pluma’s record label said on its social networks that the cancellation was because its “objective is to protect the fans and the team and for the safety of all those involved”.
