Junya Watanabe presented his new womenswear collection in Tokyo, which also included his collaboration with Versace.
Through a show that turned out to be an ode to the purest rock and punk, Watanabe exhibited the collection he designed exclusively with the Italian firm.
There are no less than 15 exclusive garments in the form of oversized T-shirts, knitted jumpers, bomber jackets, pleated jackets and luxurious printed scarves converted into skirts and shirts. All of them adorned with authentic baroque motifs and animal prints.
This union between Junya Watanabe and Versace is undoubtedly an evocation of the punk rock movement. But it’s not the first time that the Japanese designer has approached the world of music; we’ve seen it before. This new collection is full of well-known logos such as those of AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Queen and KISS, among many others.
On this occasion, the models on the catwalk became true superstars for a moment. We can find authentic nods to the 70s movement in the hairstyles, the tartan print, the spiked necklaces and the metallic ankle boots.
The exclusive garments that make up the Junya Watanabe x Versace collection will be available later this year at Dover Street Market and COMME des GARÇONS shops.
