Louis Vuitton presented its 2020 Cruise collection this Wednesday at New York’s JFK Airport, a dynamic and daring fashion show that has constantly reflected the character of its creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.
Nicolas Ghesquière vindicates himself in his Cruise SS2020
Since 2013, Nicolas Ghesquière has been drawing the female figure for Louis Vuitton. The president and CEO of the luxury brand conglomerate Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), Bernard Arnault, trusted the French designer for his ideas that went beyond the contemporary, his futuristic designs of almost architectural lines have been shaped over the years and the collections of each season.
On Wednesday Ghesquière presented the 2020 Cruise collection in the emblematic TWA Flight Center terminal at New York’s JFK airport. Its UFO form led it to be declared “a modern wonder that would impress future generations“. Hollywood’s stage was closed 20 years ago to begin a remodeling to turn it into a five-star hotel, the parade of Louis Vuitton has meant an early inauguration.
As always, the place destined to host the parade always has a lot to do with the lines of the designs, this time a futuristic building built in 1962 and a collection that extols the legacy of the French house with the search for constant innovation of Nicolas.
Louis Vuitton Cruise 2020 develops the current stylistic codes with a vision for the future.
The most complete collection we have seen so far this year. The trip encourages us to go back to the 60’s with pin-up style headdresses, but certain details such as bat sleeves and bubble skirts are from the 80’s, shorts and combat boots are from the 90’s and bags with moldable screens and flexible AMOLED technology, brings us back to our time. Nicolas Ghesquière has converged four different decades into an innovative, avant-garde and exceptional collection.
Impressive prints with a mixture of colours and textures: cotton, velvet, satin or leather. Pin-up hairstyles. Two pieces of clothing reconstructed with modern lines and a marked structure delineating the silhouette of women. A whole collection of gothic-vintage influence that transmits that remarkable black color and rounded shapes and marked with the belt.
Fulfilling all expectations Nicolas Ghesquière has designed a fresh and modern collection that will impress present and future generations.
