Before he passed away, Virgil Abloh captured his creative vision in Louis Vuitton’s Pre-Spring 2023 menswear collection. Through a musical journey, the designer explores the evolution of clothing and how it plays between the past, present and future.
“The Concert Goer” is the title of the first chapter of the collection, made up of oversized garments that are designed to evolve over time. This selection features die-dye, butterfly motifs, bright colours and multicoloured monograms. The collection includes suits with a nod to thrift shops, workwear-style cargo trousers, a shirt and skirt ensemble and a fil-coupé bomber jacket.
The second part, known as “The Music Student”, brings together a series of traditional costumes elevated through very specific details such as capes or LV‘s Damien pattern. The black monogrammed leather jacket, a velvet jacket incorporating the fashion house’s logos and the collection of bags customised by graffiti in homage to Virgil Abloh and his mural outside his studio on Rue du Pont Neuf are particularly noteworthy.
The Louis Vuitton Pre-Spring 23 collection will go on sale later this year.
