LUAR (@luar) presented its RTW SS19 collection at #NYFW. The proposal of Raúl López – designer of the brand and former HBA – bets on “basic” garments combined with a great infusion of elements of medieval and renaissance clothing such as bodices.
The collection was mostly white, as through this non-color, López tried to connect his proposal with concepts of purification and a certain mystical air that coexisted, at the seme time, with a certain rave aesthetic that made the offer a strange but forceful combination.
The Dominican designer and resident in New York, unlike many young talents who constantly play with deconstruction, brings to his work a seriousness and an intention of good work that is palpable in the immaculate manufacture of their garments. Perhaps this is one of the reasons that led him to Fund’s shortlist.
Luar RTW | SS19
A self-taught designer who has demonstrated in NY that he can rise to the occasion, although it’s true – and more so now as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist – that we expected something much more shocking. Maybe staying with the basics and not combining it with the risk has hurt him. We will closely follow the evolution of this young designer; he has talent and vision now we will see how he approaches it.
