Ludovic de Saint Sernin will open a new era at Ann Demeulemeester as creative director of the Belgian brand. The power of androgyny in fashion will unite his two universes and identities, marking a change of direction for the brand under owner Claudio Antonioli.
Ann Demeulemeester has thus appointed Ludovic as the new creative director of the independent brand that stands out for having elevated tailoring to a poetic level. A firm that left in 2013 its eponymous designer, known for being a member of the Antwerp Six, and that after seven years in the hands of Sebastian Meunier, ended up being acquired by entrepreneur Claudio Antonioli.
The young designer who has transcended in the fashion community and in the spheres of cool for his genderless collections, raised to the dais of Paris high fashion, will introduce in the firm all that fluid narrative full of lace, transparencies and crystal embellishments that characterizes him. And the fact is that, since she founded her eponymous brand in 2017, she has created a niche of followers devoted to her sensual and individualistic vision with which she sculpts iconic pieces among silk blouses, knitwear and iconic prints.
Now, her sexy and irreverent aesthetic will connect with Demeulemeester’s bohemian and gothic universe, and their common fanaticism for monochromatic, draped and deconstructed looks.
ANN DEMEULEMEESTER ENTERS A NEW DIMENSION
The appointment of the position comes with a series of six images captured by Willy Vanderperre, and styled by Olivier Rizzo, in which the designer dons archival pieces by Ann Demeulemeester. A photographic composition that also highlights Demuleemester’s deep interest in avant-garde archival fashion: a heritage that the Belgian-French creative should continue to enhance.
“Sensuality, tension, silhouette, fluidity, wildness and graphic sensation are the pillars that define the language that Ludovic de Saint Sernin will build as he charts the new direction of Ann Demeulemeester, injecting his approach to fashion as a tool to shape and liberate one’s presence and appearance,” the brand states about this creative turn.
In this sense, the Belgian house’s press release puts special emphasis on the way Ludovic will inject his personality into Ann Demeulemeester, opening the brand to new urban tribes or outsider personalities.
De Saint Sernin’s first collection for the brand will be presented in March 2023 during Paris Fashion Week. The Parisian designer will then combine the creative direction of the house with that of his own label, with which he will continue to expand his influence and identity connected to the zeitgeist of fashion.
