Cameroon, Senegal, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, the Canary Islands and Mallorca… these are some of the places that have marked the history of Lya Grace, and that have made her music become that marvellous mixture of so many cultures.
This time Lya presents her new single ‘Da Light’, a nostalgic afrobeat that speaks of never turning off our own light to satisfy someone else’s insecurities.
Bimbo (Dj Bimmybat), the producer of the song, created the beat with his baby in mind, and asked Lya to write what she felt when she heard it. From there, ‘Da Light’ was born, with such a valuable message as believing in oneself and the importance of beautiful and healthy relationships.
“The light goes on your heart
let it go inside,
burning all your walls down”
Lya has set out to unite her most traditional references with the most modern ones to form an original and unique sound. If we talk about genres, we could say that Lya Grace makes R&B and alternative soul, and that lately she is experimenting with afrobeats or even trap. A mixture of roots and influences, she draws from artists such as SZA, Jorja Smith, Sade, Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill or Erykah Badu… but also more classic artists such as Manu Dibango, Fela Kuti, Maele or Roger Bekono.
With such a diverse world and such a great personality as an artist, Lya Grace joins the Ladradora family of powerful women, along with Albany, MARIA SIOKE, AWWZ and Hello Sasy.
And speaking of music… This Saturday don’t miss Bea Pelea’s show at Café La Palma.
