British designer Martine Rose (@martine_rose) presented her SS19 collection on the streets of London, paying tribute to the city she loves so much. Near Camden a residential street was closed for the show, plastic chairs and little artifice…. Just a good, very good, collection. “Martine is a beautiful soul and one of the most talented people in the industry. I’m very happy that she brought us to Camden, it’s one of the most authentic areas,” said Virgil Abloh.
The collection brings together through the garments all those things that inspired Rose as she grew up in the British capital, from punk and reggae to the dance music scene.
The denim coexisted with spray paint, the belts were filled with studs giving it a vintage look, the shorts were adorned with patches, the tops were oversized – a mark of the house – and an antique look. Far from paying tribute to the male archetype, this time, the British-Jamaican designer chose to imbue the collection with “one spirit, one personality and one soul”.
