Mattel has just announced its latest addition to the Barbie Inspiring Women series, and this time the spotlight is on a living legend: Venus Williams. The collection, which has already paid tribute to icons such as Maya Angelou, Frida Kahlo and Eleanor Roosevelt. It celebrates women who have broken barriers, driven change and paved the way for future generations.
Venus has made history not only on the court. In 2007, she became the face of the fight for equal pay in professional tennis. Achieving the milestone of women receiving the same prize money as men in top-tier tournaments. A victory that went beyond sport and ignited the wider debate on gender equality.

The athlete was involved from start to finish in the design of the doll, which wears the outfit from her 2007 Grand Slam victory — the exact moment when prize money was equalised — along with a green gemstone necklace, racket, ball and wristbands.
Speaking about the launch, Venus said: “I hope this doll inspires young people to dream big, to know themselves, and to pursue their goals with confidence and heart.”
The Venus Williams Barbie was first unveiled in May alongside nine other female athletes and will be available from 15 August on the Mattel website.
