Medea introduces new bags for cool girls

Medea takes us into a new episode shot in New York to present its definitive collection of it-bags for the SS23 season.

The twin sister duo and co-directors of Medea take us inside a new episode shot in New York to present their definitive collection of it-bags for the SS23 season.

The Milanese brand, named after Pier Paolo Pasolini’s 1969 film about the mythological Greek sorceress, is the brainchild of artists and models Giulia and Camilla Venturini. Two designers who subtly subvert received ideas through gestures and simple objects with which they explore everything from beauty to the absurd and ironic in fashion.Their structured bags are inspired by the classic plastic shopping bags. However, if we zoom in on them, and make a closer inspection, we can see how they are actually made of luxury calfskin: designs that generate a kind of critique of the value of objects, in the form of neo-Dadaist work. It all depends on the eyes that look at them and/or interpret them.

NEW FORMATS

That shopping bag that has given continuity to this love story towards minimalism and the unusual, giving rise to accessories that have been worn by Petra Collins to Rihanna or Beyoncé, has become today the bags of the cool girls.

Now, the sisters are once again reinterpreting the concept that made them famous in the fashion system, to create a new collection of bags for the SS23 season in different shapes and materials. Thus, in this session captured by Jason Nocito, we can see represented all these pieces that are the result of experimentation with silhouette, color, and size, made of matte calfskin in Verona.

Each of these ironic bags is constructed with trompe l’oeil details and new materials such as denim or plastic with which the designers explore again minimalism, elegance and functionality, with some nods to the nineties aesthetics, while making their way in the vast universe of modern sophistication latent in the current scene.
