Meet Slawn, the Nigerian artist who designed a new BRIT Awards statue

The BRIT Awards are the most important music awards in the UK. Through an annual gala, they recognise the work of the most talented artists and provide a special musical evening.

 

For 2023, the organisation has enlisted Nigerian-born London artist Slawn, who has designed the new trophy for the winners. During the creative process, Slawn fused his references to the world of graffiti and the elegance of bronze sculpture.

In this way, he seeks to reflect his roots in Lagos by materialising them through creatures and diverse life perspectives. Notably, the iconic hat has been removed as a token of gratitude and respect.
