Minors will only be allowed to use TikTok for one hour a day

In order to help teenagers manage their time on the platform, TikTok will limit daily use to one hour for minors.

In order to help teenagers manage their time on the platform, TikTok will limit daily use to one hour for those under 18.

As the company confirmed on its own blog, the new measure will be implemented in the coming weeks. The goal is clear: “to help teens manage their time on TikTok”, says Cormac Keenan, the platform’s Head of Trust and Safety. In addition, certain improvements will be included in the system such as tools that measure screen time through parental controls, sleep reminders or the possibility to mute notifications.

Once minors exceed the 60-second limit, TikTok will issue an announcement that they must “make an active decision to extend that time”. A password will be required to resume the activity (the password will be imposed by parents). In addition, weekly reports will be produced reflecting usage time.

“We believe that digital experiences should bring joy and play a positive role in how people express themselves, discover ideas and connect. Being more aware of how we spend our time can help us be more intentional about the choices we make,” says Keenan.
