More sculptural silhouettes in the second Dr. Martens x Rick Owens drop

Following a philosophy that celebrates the alternative and challenges the conventional, Dr. Martens and Rick Owens guarantee unorthodox results.

The punk swagger of this latest bold collaboration doesn’t disappoint, as the architectural potential of the British footwear brand’s utilitarian silhouettes has been unlocked. As such, the focus is on the 8 and 18 eyelet boots built on the 2″ Quad Retro sole and fitted with an oversized, elevated tongue.

Both boots are crafted from polished black Lunar leather – a smooth material that contrasts with the vertical structure of the silhouettes. It wouldn’t be a Rick Owens collaboration without the appearance of his signature lacing system, and this time it’s showcased on the 1460 8-eye boot with thick pearlised wrap-around laces anchored with matte silver hooks. The boot features a heavy zip on the inside of the ankle, a black and pearlised heel loop and the famous yellow stitching.

The stunning Dr. Martens 1918 boot has also been reconstructed, an 18 eyelet silhouette, with extra-long pearlised laces anchored and silver hook embellishments. A heavy zip runs along the outside of the boot, and is labelled with a black and pearlised heel loop and finished with iconic yellow stitching.

To present this second selection, the famed body art artist Ron Athey once again took centre stage.

“I’ve known Ron Athey since 1980, when our paths crossed in the grimiest clubs in L.A. His work speaks to the eternal primitive in all of us and our shared human experiences – fear, shame, sexuality, mortality and faith – in a timeless tradition of blood ritual. From the drama of human sacrifice on Mayan altars to the messiah on the cross. From childbirth, to blood tests, to our current war…. I asked Ron to represent this collaboration with Dr. Martens as an example of the elegance of real transgression and our individual quests for transcendence,” says Rick Owens.
