Mowalola (@mowalola) recreated in London catwalk an apocalyptic world that reflects on technology and our relationship with it. Through its provocative, ironic and sexy spirit, the artist’s new collection speaks about contemporary existence itself.
The Nigerian designer has appropriated the symbols of the Yankees, McDonald’s, the NBA, Marlboro and MoMA and has incorporated them into her imaginary in an insightful way. Because in this apocalyptic struggle between human life and technology, the power is in the hands of the companies, companies that appear in the looks, digi-evolved in the Mowalola brand logo.
And suddenly, the meme effect took to the catwalk. An ultra-low waist skirt, which is actually a two-piece suit becomes the star of the catwalk. Another provocation comes in the form of a dress on which you can read “insert disc here”. In this one, an arrow starts from the bust and points down. Later, Mowalola challenges us to denounce her in a tank top that reads “SUE ME”. They are accompanied by garments that are now commonplace in the designer’s world: BDSM pieces, tiny shorts and cow print pieces.
If last season, the designer surprised with a collaboration with New Balance, now it’s the turn of Timberland boots, also an icon of New York hip hop. A collaboration that comes just in a year that celebrates the 50th anniversary of this culture that was born in the city of New York. A success, Mowalola!
