Nicholas Alexander Chavez stars in the Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoes campaign

We never would have thought that Jacquemus would make us sweat so much. And yet, here we are: Nike x Jacquemus is relaunching the legendary Moon Shoes, and suddenly the temperature has risen a few degrees. The blame lies with Nicholas Alexander Chavez, the star of the campaign.

Chavez—yes, the actor from Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story—appears dripping wet in a dance studio, then takes to the streets as if the asphalt were his dance floor.

The Moon Shoe, a prototype that Bill Bowerman hand-molded for the 1972 Olympic trials, is now back with a French ballet twist. Jacquemus dresses it in gathered nylon, adds an elastic back that hugs the heel, and draws an oversized leather Swoosh. Three colors—Off Noir, Alabaster, and University Red—one effect: sport is secondary, attracting attention is mandatory. Minimalist, poetic, genderless… as timeless as Chavez’s magnetism.

In the midst of the boom in reissued vintage sneakers, Jacquemus allows itself what few others do: turning an athletic archive into the fetish of the season. And in passing, reminding us that its campaigns are always pop culture territory.

Because yes, Jacquemus knows how to surround himself with faces that move culture: musicians, actors, and athletes who make each campaign a pop moment—remember the first campaign with Nike featuring Central Cee. In his new collaboration with Nike, that energy returns intact: a Moon Shoe that enters the circuit of contemporary icons.
