Onitsuka Tiger FW23 explores the art of urban layering

Andrea Pompilio presented at Milan Fashion Week his proposal for Onitsuka Tiger’s FW23 season entitled “Urban Layering”, in which he materially channels the Japanese brand’s progression and dynamic design perspective.

The sports fashion brand founded in 1949, now draws inspiration from the history of fashion in Japan, and transfers it to a collection that explores the art of urban layering within that powerful culture, as a kind of tradition or ritual of fashion.

Onitsuka’s creative director thus deployed on the infinity of the catwalk a series of loose silhouettes, elevated tailoring and contemporary or remastered versions of traditional clothing, while showing the dynamism that identifies the brand. A whole DNA and heritage that transfers to this proposal in which dilutes the gender barriers, through silhouettes and fluid and minimalist shapes bathed in a neutral color palette, in contrast to other more vivid shades such as yellow or orange.

VOLUMES AND DYNAMISM

Within the collection, the collaborative pieces with the Japanese brand Zanter stand out. Mega quilted and oversized anoraks in which both identities merge, as well as tradition and avant-garde in technical down garments that were combined with other pieces such as terry sweaters, mohair turtlenecks or ribbed tank tops. Other highlights included faux fur coats and fitted melton wool garments coordinated with matching pants.

In general, throughout the carousel of Onitsuka FW23 we could appreciate that duality between fitted silhouettes and tradition and avant-garde. A concept that is also transferred to the footwear offer through chunky boots and more minimal sneakers that just harmonized the entire collection.
