Paris bans skyscrapers (again)

Paris re-adopts the 1977 town planning law that limits the height of skyscrapers to 180 metres.

Paris bans skyscrapers (again)

After the controversy caused by the construction of the Tour Triangle by Herzog & de Meuron, the city of Paris is once again officially setting the height limit for buildings.

In 1977, an urban planning law was passed that limited the height of buildings constructed in the capital to 180 metres for office buildings and 50 metres for residential buildings. In 2010, under the mayoralty of Bertrand Delanoë, this rule was lifted and, 13 years later, it is once again being implemented by the decision of councillor Émile Meunier and the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, due to the dispute generated by the construction of the Tour Triangle. Construction on the tower began in 2010 and is due to be completed in 2026, making it the seventh tallest building in the city at 180 metres.
