Artist Paula Cendejas shares with COLORS an intimate performance of “Colibrí”, a song from her forthcoming EP “Tsunami”. The artist’s whispered vocals flutter over deep, haunting piano chords, creating a visceral atmosphere in the process. The intensity builds throughout the song, as rhythmic drum pulses and glitchy vocal effects add to the atmospheric soundtrack.
The track talks about a “hummingbird” that he felt in his “gut” and was begging to get out. “When I finally decided to write about it (2022) I had a lot of vertigo, you never talk about a loss like this, you rarely even talk about mourning, because you’re not allowed to, because in this society a thick veil is drawn over such controversial situations, often out of fear, and sadder still out of shame,” she wrote on her Instagram account.
“There are two very clear reasons why today I am finally sharing ‘Colibrí’ with the world. The first, for me, because I couldn’t allow something that has taught me so much to be forgotten, because I had to make a tribute as beautiful as it is eternal, because I am not infinite, but this song is. Secondly, for each and every one of the people who at some point lived through this, either inside or close to you. You are not alone, I love us, I admire us, I accompany us and I understand us”.
